William Shelton

Mr. William Duke Shelton, age 94, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  He was born in Surry County on September 30, 1926, to the late Lemuel Lafayette Shelton and Polly Clement Shelton.  He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and uncle who will surely be missed by all who knew him.  Left to cherish his memories are sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Donna Shelton, Kevin, and Donna Shelton; seven grandchildren; Seventeen great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Glenn Barnes as well as several nieces and nephews, and five sisters-in-law.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Leonard Shelton; one sister and nine brothers.  A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Airy Wesleyan Church with services conducted by Rev. Richard Loman and Rev. Eric Smith. Burial will follow at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at the church, and at other times at the home of Jeff and Donna Shelton, 270 Russell Rd., Mt.
