William Leonard "Bill" Smith

Mr. William Leonard "Bill" Smith, 73, of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at his home. Mr. Smith was born July 31, 1933, in Forsyth County, to Joseph Arthur Smith, Sr. and Leona Allen Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Korean Comflict. He was a self-employed painter and attended Temple Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vada Cole Smith of the home; a son, William Anthony "Tony" Smith of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Shelley Ann Hodges of Midlothian, VA, and Jennifer Boyd of Mt. Airy; four great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Sue Norman of Madison; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joby and Polly Smith of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Jason Andrew Smith; and a grandson, Joshua Cole Smith. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 3, 2006, at Temple Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Zane Fishel. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
