William E. Smith Jr

Mr. William E. Smith Jr. of Thurmond passed away on Saturday evening July 28, 2007 at Elkin Healthcare Center. He was born on August 8, 1927 in Portsmouth Virginia to the late William E. Sr. and Alice Elizabeth Schmich Smith. Bill served with the U.S. Maritime Service in 1945 and with the U.S. Army Occupation Forces in Japan. He retired from the New York State Police in 1982 and moved to Pilot Mountain for his retirement. Bill is survived by his devoted wife of Fifty Seven years, Lois Seitz Smith of the home; his sister Elizabeth Ann Kuettner and brother-in-law Walter H. Kuettner Sr. of Hawaii; a special niece Dianne K. Corwith of Water Mill, NY; a niece Susan K. Pignataro of Hawaii; a nephew Walter H. Kuettner, Jr. of Hampton Bays, NY; also surviving are a God-daughter Lauren Alvarez of Mooresville, NC; and special friends Arlen and Jeanette Kilen of Lowgap, Warren and Dorothy Brey of Thurmond; Jackie and Patricia Shores of Austin and Gene and Betty Lawson of Walkertown. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Dobson on Wednesday August 1, 2007 with Rev. Gene Lawson and Rev. Jim Prichard Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Whitaker Chapel Cemetery in Pilot Mountain. The family visitations will be one hour before the services.
