Mr. William Floyd "Thornie" Thornburg, 67, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Thornburg was born December 23, 1942, in Loudon County, TN, to the late William Franklin and Netta Mae Kerr Thornburg. He retired from Renfro Corporation and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Thornburg is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Jones Thornburg of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Paige Clifton of Lowgap and Jennifer and Gary Ray Rogers of Mount Airy; four grandchildren and a spouse, Kathryn "Katie" Clifton and Andrew Clifton, both of Lowgap, Caitlin and Melissa Stanley and Matthew Stanley, all of Mount Airy; a great-grandchild, Kinley Stanley; a brother, Thomas A. Thornburg; a niece and her spouse, Michelle and Scott Hope; and two great nephews, Cameron Hope and Caden Hope, both of Philadelphia, TN. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thornburg was preceded in death by a brother, Robert S. Thornburg; a sister-in-law, Sue Thornburg; two infant brothers; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eck and Louise Jones. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Burgess and the Rev. Mark King officiating. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 6, 2010, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 314 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
