Mr. William Roger Tolbert, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Tolbert was born February 7, 1929, in Surry County, to William Emmett and Lillie Myrtle Medley Tolbert. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving are his devoted wife, Dorothy Virginia King Tolbert of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Philip Moody of Pfafftown and Susan and Mark Simmons of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Kim Tolbert of East Bend; four grandchildren, Will Moody, Annah Moody, Ethan Tolbert, and Molly Simmons; two step-grandchildren, Tyler Angell and Meghan Angell; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Seal of Stanleyville and Jo Ann and Robert McKinney of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. David Burgess and the Rev. Verlon Combs officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
