William Harrison Towe

Mr. William Harrison Towe, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Towe was born April 23, 1925, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Jesse Fulton and Lena Westmoreland Towe. He served our country in the United States Navy during World War II and was retired from The Mount Airy News after 50 years of service. Mr. Towe was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer for 20 years. Surviving are his devoted wife, Eva Sue Simmons Towe of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen and John Orcutt and Sue Towe, all of Raleigh; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Anne Towe of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Stafford Patterson and Sgt. Thomas Patterson, both of Raleigh, and Zachary Towe of Mount Airy; two stepgrandchildren, Alison DiGuiseppe and Shawn Orcutt; and a stepbrother, Jimmy Jackson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Towe was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Semones; and six brothers, Jay Towe, Hiram Towe, Abe Towe, Beauford Towe, Franklin Towe, and Milton Towe. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 18, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Wayburn Mosley and the Rev. Milton Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
