Mr. William Cleo Ward, 94, of 3202 Summit Hills Trail, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, June 15, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Ward was born October 24, 1915, in Knox County, TN, son of the late David N. and Roxie Jennings Ward. Cleo served our country in the United States Army during World War II and was retired from the White Stores Corporation. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie Byrd Ward of the home; a sister, Hildred Ward of Knoxville, TN; two nieces and their spouses, Jane and Bud Fussell of Mount Airy and Linda and the Rev. Douglas Hines of Cleveland, GA; and a nephew, Tom Byrd of Chicago, IL. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ward was preceded in death by a brother, Jennings Woodrow Ward. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas Hines and the Rev. John Ferree officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Tina Abbott and Sherry Creech and to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love and care given to Cleo during his illness.
