Mr. Willie James Hiatt, 86, of Dobson, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 4, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Robert William "Bob" and Mittie Elizabeth Mabe Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt was a veteran of the United States Army, having served our country during World War II, and a dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He retired from Dobson Trucking after 35 years of service, which was a big part of his life as well as his part-time job at Fisher River Recycling Center after his retirement. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Dare Wright Hiatt of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Ann and Keith Simpson of Dobson and Gloria Jean and Alan Cribbs of Pinnacle; and a special granddaughter, Megan Adare Simpson of Hope Mills and her fiancé, Christopher Quance, of Raeford. A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 1:30 PM at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Wall and Dr. Andy Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1035 Cross Roads Church Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
