Mr. Willie James Hiatt, 86, of Dobson passed away on Monday May 2, 2011 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on September 4, 1924 to the late Robert William "Bob" and Mittie Elizabeth Mabe Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt was a veteran of the United States Army having served our country during WWII and a dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He retired from Dobson Trucking after 35 years of service which was a big part of his life as was his part-time job at Fisher River Recycling Center after his retirement. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Mrs. Virginia Dare Wright Hiatt of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Ann and Keith Simpson of Dobson and Gloria Jean and Alan Cribbs of Pinnacle; a special granddaughter, Megan Adare Simpson of Hope Mills and her fiancé Christopher Quance of Raeford. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday May 4, 2011 at 1:30 pm at Crossroads Baptist Church by Rev. Jeff Wall and Dr. Andy Atkins. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 1035 Crossroads Church Road Dobson, NC 27017.
