Mr. Willie Grey Sawyers, 69, husband of Mrs. Christine Felts Sawyers, of Ararat, passed away at his home on Sunday April 5, 2009 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on April 27, 1939 to Mr. Joseph Glenn and the late Ethel Irene Johnson Sawyers. Mr. Sawyers was a retired truck driver for FCX after thirty years of service and was a dedicated member of New Beginning Baptist Church. A loving husband, father, grandfather and son, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Christine Felts Sawyers of the home; his father, Joseph Glenn Sawyers of Ararat; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Lynn Sawyers of Mount Airy, Terry and Shelby Sawyers and Gary and Debra Sawyers all of Ararat; six grandchildren, Bradley Sawyers, Shonda Puckett, Jennifer Isaacs, Hannah Sawyers, Hannah Ramey and Coty Sawyers; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Geraldine Sawyers of Ararat, Rex and Linda Sawyers of Mount Airy and Jimmy and Judy Sawyers of Mount Airy. In addition to his mother, Mr. Sawyers was preceded in death by a great-grandson, William Skylar Horton. His funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday April 8, 2009 at New Beginning Baptist Church in Ararat by Rev. Donnie Holyfield, Rev. Mac Cassell and Rev. Gary Sawyers. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm where his body will remain until the hour of the funeral service. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mickie Jones, Tina Leonard and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and compassionate care shown them during this difficult time.
