Wilmer Paul Hawks

Mr. Wilmer “Paul” Hawks, age 85, of Lowgap, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Hawks was born on January 14, 1937, in Surry County to the late Wayburn Winfield and Clennie Galyean Hawks.  Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.  Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Shirley Gillespie Hawks; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie (Donald) Koger, Tammi (Ricky) France, Melissa (Mark) Wyatt, Marinda Hemric; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Paul Hawks, Stacy (Tangie) Hawks, Preston Craig Hawks, his special companion Ruger; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by a sister, Allie Hawks Burcham; five brothers, Carl Hawks, James Arlen Hawks, Verlin Hawks, Manual Hawks, and Price Hawks.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with and Rev. Russell Parsons and Rev. Ewell Vernon officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.  The family would like to extend special thanks to Pruitt Health & Rehab, Twin County Regional Healthcare, Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Forsyth Medical Center & Palliative Care for their continuous and dedicated care. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Lowgap, NC 27024.
