Winona "Nonie" Bowman, 62, of Dobson, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012, at her home after an extended illness. Nonie was born August 19, 1949, in Surry County, and was preceded in death by her father, Ausby Bowman, and her mother, Lois Smith. Nonie is survived by her special friend, Monica Bacon; a son, Bryan (Pat) Kidd of Mount Airy; two daughters, Britta (Steve) Crissman and Lauren Snow, both of Siloam; a sister, Carlene "Polly" Bowman of Pfafftown; two brothers, Roger Bowman of Mount Airy and Rocky Smith of Dobson; and a nephew, Alan Bowman of Pfafftown. Nonie was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren; Samuel Austin Crissman, Kailie Elizabeth Crissman, Walker Isaiah Snow, and Caleb Isaac Snow; and three step-grandchildren, Sean Key (deceased), Dakota Key, and Logan Harris. Nonie loved music and dancing. She sang with passion and danced with rhythm. Gospel would bring her to tears, but rock brought her to her feet. Only Nonie's love of the beach paralleled her love of music and dance. The gentle caress of the ocean's breeze and soft kiss of the sun brought her joy and peace. Nonie was a graduate of North Surry High School and Surry Community College. She held degrees in business administration and applied science, and was retired from Cross Creek Apparel. Nonie was easy to laugh, easy to cry, but slow to anger. Her infectious laughter and loving personality gave her many friends, but none as close as her best friend, Deborah "Deb" York. Nonie was raised in the Baptist faith, but she was first and foremost a Christian. Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior never faltered and endured to the end. The family invites you to come celebrate Nonie's life on Saturday, August 18, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The service will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. After the service, Nonie will be returned to earth on the date of her birth at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family would like to thank Flannery Heath of Mountain Valley Hospice for the care and compassion she gave Nonie during these last days. The family also requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Nonie's name to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
