Mr. Wladimir Olchowoj, 87, of Dobson, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born April 28, 1923, in Rostov, Russia, to the late Stephan Olchowoj. He was of the Russian Orthodox faith. Mr. Olchowoj was a retired plant manager from Saint Johns Shipping Yard in New York. He was a veteran of the Russian Army having being captured as a Prisoner of War twice and managed to escape both times. After escaping Communism, he was forced into the German Army fighting against Russia. After meeting the love of his life, who also escaped Communism, he and his wife moved to America in 1955. After a period of declining health, he made his home with his beloved grandson and his family in Dobson. He leaves to cherish his memory his grandson, Michael, and his wife, Ericka Olchowoj of Dobson; and his great-grandchildren, Michael, Victoria, Katarina, Olivia, Daniel, and David Olchowoj. There will be no formal services. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their loving, compassionate care.
