Mr. Woodrow Craig Sprinkle, 77, of Elkin, passed away early Saturday morning, January 29, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy. Mr. Sprinkle was born February 16, 1944, in Surry County, the son of the late Culbert Craig and Mary Magdalene Callahan Sprinkle. Craig was reared in the Crossroads community and graduated from Surry Central High School in 1962. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served two years. His experience in the Army played an important role in his life, teaching the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause larger than himself. Craig Sprinkle finished well. He lived a servant’s life and modeled a servant’s heart. Craig fed quietly into the lives of others with care, love, and concern. Mr. Sprinkle was a faithful member and deacon of Piney Grove Baptist Church, living a life of transformed grace and devoting his life to tireless service to others. He owned and operated Carolina Virginia Door Service. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma Draughn Sprinkle of the home; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille Riggans, Doris and Steve Pratt, and Curt Simpson, all of Dobson, Iris and Dirk Apt of Lexington, and Jackie and Richard Collins of Elkin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Sprinkle, Ronnie and Kathy Sprinkle, and Wanda Sprinkle White, all of Dobson; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Bill Dollyhigh and Ricky Draughn, all of Mount Airy, and Judy Dollyhigh of Dobson; several nieces and nephews; and his four-legged buddy, Precious. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sprinkle was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Leila and Ray Mayes, Linda Simpson, and Bud Riggans; a brother, Bill Sprinkle; a sister-in-law, Kathlene Sprinkle; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wade and Verlie Marion Draughn; and a brother-in-law, Larry Dollyhigh. A service of worship and celebration of Craig’s life will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Kyle R. Caudle and the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. officiating. No formal visitation will be held; however, family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 12:00 until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by Kathy A. Robertson, along with the staff at Northern Regional Hospital, during the last week of Craig’s life.
