Zebulon Wayne Thompson

Mr. Zebulon Wayne Thompson, age 80, of Elkin, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born January 23, 1943, in Surry County, to the late Zebulon Vance Thompson and the late Claudine Hanks Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Swaim; and his brother Vance Thompson.

            Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 57 years, Charlene Blackburn Thompson; his son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Sheryl Thompson; his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Allen McDevitt; and grandchildren, Melinda Thompson, Joanna Thompson, Lora McDevitt, and Amber McDevitt.

            Mr. Thompson was a member of Gum Orchard Baptist Church. He retired from the Surry County School System, where he served as a schoolteacher, assistant principal, and Industrial Education Coordinator. He was an avid beekeeper and a former NC bee inspector.

 Visitation will be held Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Gum Orchard Baptist Church. Services will begin at 3:00 PM with Rev. Austin Caviness officiating. Burial will follow in the Zephyr Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Zephyr Cemetery Fund, C/O Gum Orchard Baptist Church, 152 Poplar Springs Road, Elkin, NC 28621 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
