Zula Marie Leonard Dawson

Mrs. Zula Marie Leonard Dawson, 85, of Cana, VA, passed away Saturday May 9, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Dawson was born April 13, 1924, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Joseph Henry and Mollie Elizabeth McCraw Leonard. She retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Jeanette D. Funk of Cana, VA; a son, James Cecil Dawson of Cana, VA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Emily and Jim Smithson of Chesapeake, VA., SSG. Jeff Dawson of Ft. Jackson, SC, Michael and Amy Ramey of King, and Nathan and Lindsey Ramey of Pembroke, VA; stepgrandchildren, Lindsay Funk of Galax, VA, and Chad and Jenifer Funk of Murfreesboro, TN; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Edgar Dawson; two sisters, Beulah Quesinberry and Ules Hutchens; and a brother, Joseph H. Leonard. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. David "Buster" Sechrist and the Rev. Gary Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
